The first single off of the sophomore album ‘Lesser Oceans’, from Seattle native, ‘Fences’ a.k.a. Christopher Mansfield. The track also features Grammy-award winning duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, with Macklemore lending his rap talent to this astoundingly great song.
Once you see past the names of the featured artist you see why Fences has featured on past Macklemore & Ryan Lewis song, ‘Otherside’, from ‘The VS. Redux’. Mansfield’s vocals are a big plus on a staggeringly catchy song. Armed with this fantastic voice Mansfield and co. create a gorgeous track that uses a simple chorus to create a track that young and old can sing along to.
From the moment the bass drum kicks in, listeners will be entranced in what Mansfield and guest stars Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have created. The addition of a fast pace rap verse by Macklemore himself adds to the true meaning withheld inside this track. Macklemore recently talked about his two verses in this track relating to the year he had in 2013, where at times he felt as if he was “trapped inside bars”, not to dissimilar to the ones depicted in the official video for this track.

In the official video for Arrows, directors Jason Koenig & John Keatley, have created something that throughout the song only adds to the messages evoked within Arrows. The addition of flying arrows all around each scene creates a playful feature to the beautiful colours and pictures depicted. Overall, the video looks like a scene from the Wes Anderson film ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’, with pastel colours used throughout.
The track and video work so well together and really show the talent of not only the artists, but the directors and their ability to compliment a song in such a stunning way. Aside from the video, this is an extraordinary song that listeners will be singing for a quite a while after hearing it.
